General Questions

What is Happy Poop?

Happy Poop is a free digestive health tracking app available on iOS, Android, Apple Watch, Wear OS, and the web. It lets you log your bowel movements using the internationally recognized Bristol Stool Scale, track your hydration habits (pee), monitor daily routines, and follow your menstrual cycle — all in one place.

Beyond logging, the Dashboard tab transforms your entries into charts, tables, and correlation graphs so you can discover real patterns in your health. You can export a professional PDF report to share with your gastroenterologist. It's built with a privacy-first philosophy: no account required, full offline functionality, and you own all your data.

Is Happy Poop free to use?

Yes — completely. The full tracking experience, all analytics tools, the offline mini-games, audio tracks, and data export features are all free with no in-app purchases or subscription required. The app is supported by advertising. There is no "premium tier" hiding essential health features behind a paywall.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Creating an account is entirely optional. You can start logging immediately after installing the app without providing an email address or any personal information. All core features — tracking, charts, records, games, and local data export — are available without an account.

A free account unlocks three additional features: automatic cloud backup and synchronization across multiple devices, photo attachments on individual log entries, and the Social tab (which lets you optionally share your health journey with friends or family). If you never want those features, you never need an account.

Who built Happy Poop?

Happy Poop is built and maintained by Gilson Nascimento, a solo indie developer and Computer Science graduate. The idea came from a conversation with his wife, who pointed out the need for a quality digestive tracking app. She was the app's first user. The app launched on Google Play on September 5, 2021, and has since expanded to iOS, Galaxy Store, Amazon Appstore, Huawei AppGallery, Apple Watch, Wear OS, and Alexa, with 35 language localizations. Privacy & Security

Is my health data private and secure?

Yes. Happy Poop is built with a privacy-first architecture. By default, all data stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere. If you choose to create an account and enable cloud sync, your data is stored on secure servers, and you remain in full control — you can delete your account and all associated cloud data permanently at any time from Settings → User.

The app also features Discrete Mode, which lets you disguise the app as a generic utility on your home screen, and biometric locking (Face ID, fingerprint, PIN) to prevent anyone with access to your phone from seeing your health records. Read about privacy settings.

What is Discrete Mode?

Discrete Mode allows you to replace the "Happy Poop" app name and icon on your phone's home screen with a neutral, non-revealing alternative. The app will appear to anyone who glances at your phone as an unrelated utility, with no indication that it's a health tracker. Combined with the biometric lock, your health data is invisible to prying eyes even if someone handles your device.

Discrete Mode is enabled from Settings → Appearance → Discrete Mode.

How do I delete my account and all my data?

If you have a cloud account, go to Settings → User → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and wipes all associated data from our cloud servers. The deletion is irreversible. If you use the app without an account, simply uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.

AI Features

Who is Zeps, and what does the AI assistant do?

Zeps is Happy Poop's beetle mascot and built-in AI health assistant. You'll find the Zeps chat button directly in the Dashboard tab. Zeps is not a generic chatbot — it has access to your actual tracked data and can answer questions specifically about your history.

You can ask Zeps things like:

  • "How has my Bristol type distribution changed over the last month?"
  • "What do my best and worst weeks have in common?"
  • "Based on my log, what habits seem to correlate with looser stools?"
  • "Is my poop frequency normal?"
  • "What can I do to improve my digestive health based on my data?"

Zeps analyses your logged entries to give personalized, context-aware responses and actionable suggestions — not generic health advice.

What is the AI "Analyze" button in the log entry screen?

When logging a poop entry, you'll see an Analyze button. Tapping it opens the camera (or lets you upload a photo). The app's AI then analyses the image and automatically fills in the Bristol type, color, and quantity fields for you — no manual selection needed.

This makes precise logging faster and more consistent, especially for users who find the manual classification uncertain. The AI classification can be reviewed and adjusted before saving the entry. The photos used for analysis are stored privately and are only shared with other users if you explicitly choose to share poop photos with your followers.

Features

What exactly can I track with Happy Poop?

Happy Poop tracks four core categories, each with detailed sub-fields:

  • Poop (bowel movements): Date, time, duration, Bristol Stool Scale type, quantity, color, secondary type, mood, custom traits (blood, mucus, colic, pain, medication, etc.), location, photos, and free-text notes.
  • Pee (urination): Frequency, color, volume estimate, and any unusual characteristics.
  • Habits: Any custom habit you want to monitor — medication adherence, water intake, specific foods, exercise, stress level, sleep quality, or anything else relevant to your health.
  • Menstruation: Flow intensity, symptoms, and cycle dates, with correlation charts that show how your cycle affects your digestive patterns.

Logging a complete entry typically takes 10–20 seconds once you're familiar with the interface.

What is the Bristol Stool Scale?

The Bristol Stool Scale is the international medical standard for classifying stool consistency, developed at the University of Bristol in 1997. It groups stool into seven types based on shape and water content:

  • Type 1: Separate hard lumps (very constipated)
  • Type 2: Sausage-shaped but lumpy
  • Type 3: Sausage-shaped with surface cracks (ideal)
  • Type 4: Smooth, soft sausage (ideal)
  • Type 5: Soft blobs with clear-cut edges
  • Type 6: Fluffy pieces with ragged edges
  • Type 7: Entirely liquid (diarrhea)

Types 3 and 4 represent optimal transit time and microbiome function. Gastroenterologists use the Bristol Scale daily in clinical practice. Read our full article on the Bristol Stool Scale.

How do I export my data to share with my doctor?

From the Dashboard tab, tap the export icon and choose your format: PDF (a professionally formatted report ideal for medical appointments), CSV (spreadsheet-compatible raw data), or JSON (for data portability). The PDF includes charts, your Bristol type history, frequency statistics, and correlation data in a clean, readable format that gastroenterologists and GPs can review directly.

This feature works locally — you don't need an account to export your data.

Can I track multiple people — like my child or an elderly parent?

Yes. Happy Poop supports multiple independent tracking profiles from a single installation. Each profile has completely separate data — its own calendar, entries, charts, statistics, and default settings. There is no cross-contamination between profiles. You can switch between profiles at any time from the Settings tab.

This is particularly useful for parents tracking their children's digestive health, caregivers monitoring an elderly family member, or even tracking a pet. Each profile can be given a custom name and avatar.

What analytics does the Dashboard provide?

The Dashboard tab offers three views:

  • Charts: Visual breakdowns of your data by Bristol type, frequency, time of day, day of week, color, mood, location, quantity, duration, and custom traits. The powerful multi-overlay correlation chart lets you plot poop, pee, and habit data simultaneously on a single timeline to spot connections.
  • Tables: Spreadsheet-style rows for detailed day-by-day comparison.
  • Records: Your statistical highlights — most frequent times, longest tracking streaks, aggregate totals, and historical extremes for any date range.
What is in the Pastime tab?

The Pastime tab is designed for the time you're actually in the bathroom and want something to do. It includes:

  • 12 offline mini-games: 2048, Tetris, Sudoku, Wordle, Pacman, Snake, PoopSweeper (a Minesweeper variant), Breakout, and more. All work without internet.
  • Relaxing audioscapes: High-quality ambient audio in Celtic, Classic, Epic, and Nature categories — designed to reduce stress during your bathroom routine.
  • Educational article library: In-app articles covering digestive health, gut biology, and wellness topics.

Platforms & Compatibility

What platforms is Happy Poop available on?

Happy Poop is available on:

Does the web version have all the same features as the mobile app?

Yes — 100% feature parity. The web app at coco-feliz.casadozeps.com/app is a Progressive Web App with identical capabilities to the mobile apps. Every feature available on iOS or Android is available on the web, including mini-games, audio, and settings. The web version is particularly convenient for reviewing charts and typing detailed notes at a desktop computer.

How do I use Happy Poop on my Apple Watch or Wear OS watch?

Happy Poop has dedicated companion apps for both Apple Watch (watchOS) and Wear OS. Once installed, the watch app lets you log a poop or pee entry directly from your wrist with just a few taps — without needing to take out your phone. Entries sync automatically to your main app log. See the Wearables & Integrations help page for setup instructions.

How many languages does Happy Poop support?

Happy Poop is fully localized into 35 languages, including English, Portuguese (Cocô Feliz), Spanish (Caca Feliz), French, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and many more. The language can be changed at any time from Settings → Language without affecting your logged data.

Does Happy Poop work offline?

Yes. The entire core experience works offline: logging entries, viewing your calendar history, accessing the Dashboard analytics, playing all 12 mini-games, and listening to audio tracks. Internet is only used for cloud sync (if you have an account), in-app advertising, and accessing web-based content in the reading library. You can track your health completely without a data connection.
